I want to volunteer: what do I do next?

If you are an individual and at least 18 years of age, and not applying for an internship, you can download the application form from this website, complete it and return it. You can drop it off in person, mail it it or scan/ photograph and email to info@josephshousetroy.org. The Volunteer Coordinator will review your interests, availability and contact your references before setting up an interview. If you and the agency seem a good match you will receive a volunteer handbook, orientation to the agency and will be asked to sign a statement of confidentiality. The ability to be non-judgmental and confidential are essential traits in our volunteers. There is no upper age limit for volunteering.

Please note: Filling out an application form in no way guarantees acceptance in Joseph’s House volunteer program.

My school/ college wants me to volunteer - can I do that at Joseph’s House? If you are volunteering as part of a school requirement please read the paragraph below to ensure we can offer the experience you need.

I have to do some court-mandated community service - can you help me? If you are seeking a site to fulfill mandated community service for a court or similar law enforcement agency, you will often have limited time to complete your mandated hours. Your time will be supervised by a member of staff - this means hours will only be available during regular business hours and on weekdays only. Call the Volunteer Coordinator at 518-272-2544 for details and to find out if there are spaces in our program in the time frame you require.

Group or Team Volunteering Most groups who volunteer for us make meals at our homeless shelter on weekends or holidays. There are some limited opportunities for groups from business, fraternal organizations and faith communities to volunteer during the working week. Occasionally someone wishes to volunteer with minors (those under 18 years) - from scout troops, schools, honor societies, faith communities - should contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 518-272 -2544 to discuss appropriate tasks and staffing.
