Since May 2018, Joseph’s House volunteers have been helping staff the Homeless Action Van. 7 days a week, the outreach van leaves Kendall House (formerly known as the Homeless Action Committee building) at 393 N. Pearl St, Albany, shortly after 2pm. Our staff driver is supported by up to two volunteers on each of the 2 shifts: 2-6pm or 6-10pm. They deliver sandwiches, water, blankets, clothing and personal supplies to people living outside, in and around downtown AlbanyVolunteers need to submit an application and meet with the Volunteer Coordinator for an orientation before their first shift.
Volunteers have found this task to be both moving and fulfilling. As always, we are looking for volunteers who can be non-judgmental, confidential and compassionate. Volunteers select shifts from an online sign-up calendar and will need to be able to climb in and out of the van for a 4 hours shift: dress comfortably for the predicted weather! if you can not help on the van we are always looking for donations of bottled water and sandwich items.
